Big Sisters. The answer to forced child marriage
In Nepal, girls as young as 12 are forced into marriage.
The impact is devastating. Girls are often abused by their much older husbands. Because their bodies are not fully developed, death in childbirth is also common.
Poverty means that girls’ education is not seen as worthwhile. Sadly, many parents think marriage is their daughter’s only option.
VSO-trained Big Sisters are the answer to forced child marriage.
VSO-trained Big Sisters, like Anu, are helping girls to stay in school and avoid forced marriage. By speaking up for girls’ rights and mentoring girls through school, these brave Big Sisters are making a vital impact – helping girls get the education they need to build the future they want.
Sadly, there are thousands of girls in Nepal without a Big Sister, who still face the bleak future of a forced marriage. That’s why we need your help.
Help us train more Big Sisters who will save more girls from forced marriage. Donate now to change a girl’s life.
